Word studies, or looking at the use(s) of a word in Scripture is one of the best ways to study the Bible. Such an overview provides us with as comprehensive a picture as possible regarding what God wants us to know about a given topic or subject. With regard to “Familial” language in reference to God, there are three terms that occur: “Father,” “Son,” and “Son of God.” “Father” refers to God while “Son” and “Son of God” refer to Jesus Christ.
This chart provides lists of these three terms as found in the New Testament. I have used both the New American Standard Bible (NASB, 1977) and the Nestle-Aland Greek New Testament, 27th edition (NA 27). Each term is listed from both sources in parallel columns for convenient reference.
I have tried to be as thorough as possible. Any omissions in these lists are unintentional. Should anyone find omissions please contact me so that I may make any needed changes.
The chart is in pdf form and can be found here.
For a companion piece to these charts see the article, “Son of God in the Old Testament.”
