Barbara Helen Burns

Barbara was born in Pasadena, California in 1941 and grew up part of the time in Palm Desert, California and part in Prescott, Arizona. She studied nursing at West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing, an affiliate of Wheaton College, and Arizona State University. Her theological and missiological studies began at Denver Seminary and later she completed a D.Miss. at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Barbara has been a missionary in Brazil since 1969 where she became a teacher of Missions. She helped start the Antioch Mission, the Association of Missions Teachers in Brazil (APMB) and the department of Missions at the Faculdade Teológica Batista in São Paulo. Since 1999 she has been in the Northeast of Brazil to help direct a missionary training school in João Pessoa, Paraíba. She retired in 2017, but continues to teach and help in the school. Barbara was a member of the leadership council for the World Evangelical Alliance Missions Commission for 15 years.
